Information and Activities

Young Carers are an amazing group of young people (under 18) who provide care to another family member because they have a physical illness or disability, mental health illness or a drug or alcohol problem.

There are over 800,000 young carers nationwide, with Haringey's 2011 census indicating that there were approximately 500 young carers in Haringey under the age of 15 and 1,700 between the ages of 16 - 24.

Young carers are a vulnerable group and can experience difficulties in a number of areas if not supported:

  • Education, training or employment opportunities
  • Mental and physical health
  • Social development
  • Self esteem
