Project progressing well ahead of summer start date

Friday 10 June 2022

Smooth and steady progress is continuing to be made at the site of the Rising Green Youth Hub ahead of its highly anticipated launch later this summer.

The lighting and mechanical equipment has been delivered and installed at the site, where there has also been an upgrade to the supply of utilities such as the electricity and water.

A platform lift has been put in its rightful place too and some additional steel structures have been installed to support the new lift. The ground and first floor spaces have been reconfigured as well, with new partitions that separate the various rooms.

There remains still more to be done prior to putting the finishing touches on the project, but the delivery of it remains on time and to schedule at the start of the school summer holidays.

Meanwhile, here are some pictures from a recent behind-the-scenes tour for local community partners and stakeholders as this inclusive and safe facility progressively takes shape.

Aimed at young people aged between the ages of 11 and 19 and those up to 25 with a disability here in Haringey, the Rising Green Youth Hub has been co-designed with them and will offer young people an inclusive and safe space to relax, enjoy and learn.

This facility will be a space where young people can chill and socialise, and will also provide a broad range of activities, such as:

  • Informal education, arts and sports
  • Employment and life skills workshops
  • Music: production/design/business development
  • Podcasting/Film production
  • Web design/Digital design
  • Training kitchen/Café area

A group of young people called Wood Green Young Voices have been engaged in the co-design and co-production of the Youth Hub from the very outset of this project.

They have met regularly with architects Freehaus via virtual co-design and co-production workshops, which has enabled them to share their experiences of Wood Green, as well as provide feedback and ideas for the project.

They have also had the opportunity to develop digital/visual skills, while learning about architecture and the design process.
