Haringey Apprenticeship Programme

This is available only to residents of Haringey. A variety of opportunities are available.

AON Apprenticeship

The AON training programme will fully equip you to make an immediate impact on their business, helping you to build your business knowledge, develop professional skills and grow effective relationships with clients and colleagues.

You will receive full support to study for professional qualifications (ACII) plus a salary (£16,000-£18,000) and benefits while you develop. AON are looking for individuals who can demonstrate their enthusiasm and potential, and who have a passion for customer service.

IBM Apprenticeships

BBC Technology Apprentices

The Broadcast Engineering Apprenticeship is the BBC’s technology scheme for school-leavers. Supported by co-investment from government, the BBC is offering, for the first time, a three year contract to work and train in technology teams with the BBC and our broadcasting industry partners. This is a higher level apprenticeship (Level 6) which supports you while you study towards an honours bachelor’s degree, at the same time as gaining invaluable industry experience with a range of companies in the broadcasting sector. You won’t have to pay any university fees, the BBC will pay you an Apprentice’s salary, and you’ll build up an excellent CV to allow you to apply for jobs in the industry when you graduate.

AMSYS – Apple Macintosh Systems Support

AMSYS supports the publishing industry with Macintosh support, and offers a 2 year IT apprenticeship to young people who have a minimum of four GCSEs between grades A-C (including English and Maths). Candidates must be able to travel to Kenley, in South London, where the AMSYS offices are based.

Army

There are no academic entry requirements if you apply to become an army soldier, but army officers need to have passes in certain GCSE subjects. All applicants must undergo a medical and physical examination. Young people can apply from the age of 16, but must have parental consent if they are under 18. AUDI – Motor Vehicle

The Audi Apprenticeship Programme takes on young people between the ages of 16-19 with 4 GCSEs at grade C or above. Audi is currently recruiting for technician apprentices, paint and body apprentices, and parts apprentices in centres around the UK.

BAE Systems – Transatlantic Aerospace and Defence

Apprentices can train in a wide number of skills, from engineering to business administration and information technology. Engineering apprentices will undertake the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification, which is a level 2 NVQ that will prepare you for the workplace. Apprentices need 3 – 5 GCSEs at grades A – C for a technical apprenticeship, or A – E for a craft apprenticeship.

BESA – Building Engineering Services Association

BESA is an established training provider in building services engineering and the leading specialist training provider for the recruitment and training of apprentices in the heating and ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing industries. Applicants should have, or expect to achieve GCSE grades A-C in Maths, English Language/Literature and a Science subject or Resistant Materials. GNVQ or BTEC equivalents are also accepted.

Chartered Surveyors Training Trust

CSTT is the UK’s only educational surveying charity dedicated to providing apprenticeship opportunities to young people aged 16-24. It offers apprenticeships for Building Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, and General Practice Surveyors in London and the south-east. Its vision is to open up the surveying profession to individuals from all backgrounds and to provide employers with committed and talented employees.

CITB - Construction Industry Training Board

CITB is the national training organisation for construction in the UK. Opportunities exist in Wood, Roofing, Stone masonry and Bricklaying, Plant, Interiors and Finishing, Demolition, Scaffolding and Steeplejacks, Design and Engineering, and Surveying.

E.On UK – Power and Gas

E.On UK is one of the UK’s leading, integrated power and gas companies, which generates and distributes electricity, power and gas. E.On offers the following training schemes: Electrical Apprenticeship, Generation Apprenticeship, Gas Apprenticeship and Technician Apprenticeship. The Hadley Group

The Hadley Group is one of the world's foremost manufacturers of cold rolled formed sections and allied products.

Entry Qualifications:

  • Production Apprenticeship: GCSE grades D – E in relevant subjects i.e English, Mathematics, and Science
  • Technical Apprenticeship: GCSE grades A, B, C in relevant subjects Mathematics, English and Science

What do we offer?

  • Employment from day one (with a competitive wage)
  • 6 to 9 months off the job training (at a local training provider/college)
  • 2 year and 4 year structured apprentice training scheme

Joshua Galvin is a Bethnal Green-based training provider for 16-18 year olds interested in hairdressing training. After an intensive period of E2E (Entry to Employment Training) Joshua Galvin works with candidates to help find them an apprenticeship in a London salon. Candidates should come into Connexions for an E2E referral, or telephone the Central Training Academy on 020 7613 4455.

JTL – Plumbing and Electrical

JTL is one of the main training providers to the building engineering services industry and is open to 16-19 year olds. Apprenticeships are available in Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Heating and Ventilating, and Engineering Maintenance.

Kwik Fit – Automotive parts repair

The Kwik Fit Apprenticeship scheme is a comprehensive and extensive programme that will teach you about every area of automotive parts repair including tyres, brakes, exhausts, MoT testing, car servicing, air conditioning recharge and windscreen repair. The training takes two years and leads to an NVQ qualification and a career as a Kwik Fit fitter. Candidates can apply online on Kwik-Fit jobs (external link)

London Underground

Two year apprenticeship programme for Station Supervisors, Service Operators and Train Operators. To apply for the apprenticeship programme you must be taking your GCSEs, and they want at least grade C in Maths and English.

Marshall Aerospace

The Marshall Group of Companies has been taking apprentices since 1929, and the Aerospace division continues to take 20 new apprentices each year in a variety of specialist areas including airframe, electrical, manufacturing, mechanical, and avionics design. The apprenticeship lasts 3-4 years and incorporates a period of six months in the Training School, an NVQ Level 3, a Technical Certificate and Key Skills in five different areas.

Network Rail

Network Rail owns and operates Britain’s rail infrastructure, and offers apprenticeship opportunities to young people who wish to train as Maintenance Engineering Technicians. Young people can choose to specialise in Track, Signalling, Electrification and Plant, or Telecoms, but should have at least 4 GCSEs at grades A-C (including English, Maths and Science). The apprenticeships last three years, and candidates need to be willing to spend their first year of training at Gosport (accommodation is provided).

North London Garage Group has an apprentice training programme in the motor vehicle sector for 16-18 year olds. There are a range of courses available, covering light vehicle technician, heavy vehicle technician, body repair, paint refinishing, parts distribution supply, tyres, batteries, exhaust fitting and abrasive wheels.

PWC offers a HeadStart programme in Tax or Assurance, which is an alternative to a traditional university degree. It is a professional training scheme, which is suited to young people who have already decided a career in accountancy or finance is for them.

You could earn an apprenticeship in a range of roles; anything from an Aeronautical Engineer, working hard to keep our aircraft ready for action, to a Chef, developing new ways to cook under pressure. Maybe you’re an IT specialist, using cutting-edge technology to maintain our radar and communication set-ups, and develop the next generation of electronic warfare systems.

ReMIT – Motor Vehicle

ReMIT is one of the UK’s leading training providers of automotive apprenticeships. They provide structured training programmes across the UK, working in partnership with local companies and colleges. ReMIT trains apprentices as: Service Technicians, Auto Electricians, Vehicle Body Repairers, Vehicle Body Painters, Motorcycle Technicians, Heavy Vehicle Technicians, Parts Consultants, Fast Fit Technicians and Vehicle Body Fitters.

Royal Parks – Gardening

‘Grow’ is the Royal Parks’ new 3 year apprenticeship programme, for young people with an interest in amenity horticulture. Candidates will work in Hyde Park, St James’s Park, Bushy Park, Richmond Park, Regent’s Park, Green Park, Greenwich Park or Kensington Gardens. Applicants need four good GCSE passes to apply.

Skillnet – Motor vehicle apprenticeships

Specialises in apprenticeship training for the motor industry, and recruits on behalf of over 200 companies. Apprentices can train as a light vehicle technician, heavy vehicle technician, fast fit technician, body fitter, body repairer, body painter, parts specialist and auto electrician. Good GCSE grades are a benefit but each applicant will be assessed on their own merits. Enthusiasm and commitment are treated just as importantly as qualifications.

Telent – Telecommunications apprenticeships

Telent supplies a range of communications support services to telecommunications operators. They are offering fully funded two-year technician apprenticeships. Apprentices work towards an NVQ Level 3 and a BTEC National Certificate in Telecommunications. Applicants need to have three GCSEs grade C and above in Maths, English and IT or a Science related subject.

Toyota – Motor Vehicle

Toyota runs a three year modern apprenticeship scheme for 16-18 year olds that are interested in pursuing a motor vehicle career. Applicants must have GCSE passes (‘C' grades or above) in English, Maths and Science. The six areas covered are Vehicle Technician, Parts Adviser, Body Technician, Paint Technician, Service Adviser and Maintenance Engineering.

Transport For London

Transport For London is offering a new apprenticeship scheme for young people taking their GCSEs, who would like a career with the London Underground. Applicants need to achieve a ‘C’ grade or above in English and Maths. Candidates can choose to take apprenticeships in Station Supervision, Service Operations or Train Operations.

Remember to check the dates of application on company websites, as some organisations only recruit apprentices at designated times of the year.
